Sciatica
Sciatica is a commonly misunderstood condition. Many people refer to pain in the lower back or buttock as “sciatica”. While these symptoms are commonly part of the picture, true sciatica is when the sciatic nerve is impinged. This means that there will also be numbness or tingling down the back of the thigh and into the lower leg and/or foot.
There is more than one reason that a person can have these symptoms, including a disc injury, muscular tension through the glutes, hamstrings or calf, or the pressures put on the nerve during pregnancy.
Chiropractors are well equipped to treat these problems by relieving restrictions at the joints and soft tissues, and reducing pressure on the nerve. They can also prescribe home exercises to increase movement of the nerve and stabilize the core to help prevent recurrences of your symptoms.
